Latest Puck Junk Podcast: The One In Which The Lottery Is Won

In this weeks show, Sal and I chat about the improbability becoming not only probable, but a reality. The Chicago Blackhaws have won the Bedard Sweepstakes!!  What now? Will this affect the hobby? Will fans come back?  We shall see.  Oh, and cards. Who can forget cards? We discuss the 2021-22 SPx hockey card set too.  Check it out.

Hockey History As Told By Cardboard - Keith Tkachuk

Keith Tkachuk became just the 28th US-Born player to skate in his 1,000 career NHL game on December 1, 2007.  This also make him the 224th player in NHL history to hit the coveted 1,000 games played.

In a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Tkachuk had a helper on the 3-0 goal, finding Mike Johnson in the high slot. The Legend of Melrose Mass would finish his career with over 1,200 games played, good enough for 112th on the all time games played list between Owen Nolan and HHOFer Brian Leetch.

Today In Penguins History (6/1/1992)

On this day in 1992, the brooms were out in Pittsburgh as the defending Stanley Cup champions completed a four-game sweep of the Chicago Blackhawks.  The 6-5 victory capped off a series that saw the Blackhawks in the finals for the first time since 1973.

Melon-head

Hi!  I'm Wayne and I have a giant head.  Everything on my head is giant...except my ears.  Those are quite small.  In fact, I'm not sure I have ears at all.  If it weren't for these rubber things the photographer glued to my head, all you would see would be a small hole for which I hear through.  I call it the "Five-hole".  Sometimes, if you listen closely, you can hear the wind whistling past it.  It makes that sound like when you blow across the top of a Coke bottle.  I can hear you laughing at me.  But I don't care.  You know why?

Because I got something you ain't got.

A Stanley Cup ring.

For playing in one game with the Blackhawks.

Who's laughing now?

Pens vs. Blackhawks; 3 Stars

The Pens were able to hold off an 8 minute Blackhawk barrage in the 3rd period to hang onto a 3-2 win at Consol tonight.  The Pens are now 2 games out of 1st in the division and I believe 3 games back in the East.  The Hawks, despite the loss, are still statistically the best team in hockey.  Tonights 3 stars Crown Royale style...

3. Viktor Stalberg - - this guy was a beast on the ice and if it wasn't for the posts, the game would have been 4-2 Hawks.  He deserves it.

2.  Marc-Andre Fleury - - Fleury, as usual, is a beast in net for the Pens.  He continues to dominate in the absence of many players due to injury.  Clearly the MVP of the team thus far.

1.  Evgeni Malkin - - He has definitely stepped it up in Crosby's absence.  He had 6 shots on goal and 3 assists to show for it.  He also took a high stick in the face which led to a 4:00 penalty, that eventually saw the game winner scored.
