I just wanted to take a second and share a couple new Tangradi's that I picked up. None are as epically awesome as that Cup patch auto but they are all still pretty cool.
I can't understand why I didn't have the Victory card. I think I actually did but it is in my set. Maybe it's just that I have seen it so many times on Ebay that I figured I had it already. Either way, it is one of the only cards I have seen where he is wearing number 78. He is 25 in case anyone was wondering. He was 26 last year. He also wore 56 the year before.
The Contenders auto is just another of the multi-tiered cards that I needed. I already had the regular one without the auto which was the Playoff Ticket version. This one is labeled Season Ticket.
This one is pretty cool. I have the basic jersey card (black swatch) which is numbered out of 200. This one, however, is the PATCH version numbered out of /35. It is all white but either comes from the belly of the penguin on the front logo or the center section from a number on the black or blue versions of the jersey. At least, that's what I can figure. I suppose it could also be from a practice jersey but those usually say so on the back. This one just says it was worn during the Rookie Photo Shoot. I don't think they had practice jerseys there although, you never know with Upper Deck. Still, it is cool.

Box Break - - 2011-12 Crown Royale Hockey

There is a mixed review on this product. On one hand, it is almost priced out of the average collector's budget as boxes tend to hover around the $100 mark. This is, of course, $100 for 20 cards (carry the 2...) which comes out at a whopping $5 per card. There is also the fact that these are probably some of the gaudiest, most blatantly kitschy designs you will find in all of sports cards. On the other hand, the boxes offer up four solid hits per box of either autos, memorabilia, or both. Many of them are numbered under 100 and with the inclusion once again of the Rookie Silhouettes, there is a chance for some really big pulls. And...where the crazy design turns off some groups, it is a draw just the same for others.
I'm one of the others because I've collected the previous years sets, I picked up last years, and I'm heading down that path again this year. There is just something cool about that crown die-cut on the top of the cards. Plus, for me, I did real well with boxes of this stuff last year and most of the 2011-12 breaks I have seen have yielded some very nice items. So here goes
As I already mentioned, each hobby box contains 4 packs of 5 cards each for a total of 20 cards. With each pack containing a "hit", that leaves 16 potential base cards or inserts.
Base cards are the typical Crown Royal design we have come to expect. Silver foil crown die-cut into the top of the cards, with a player photo and some type of design to encompass the name and team. This years took an interesting twist with the two year panels on either side. I'm still not sure if I like those that way since they kind of detract from the card design. It almost seems like there should be an additional die-cut where those panels are.
Here are a couple as an example. Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby. I'm not sure why these scanned different since they were done at the same time but they are the same nonetheless. The base set numbering covers 1-100.
There are also Legendary Heroes cards. These look similar to the base but the subject's photo is in black and white. Also, the year panels feature the rookie season and the final season of play for the player. Here we have Steve Yzerman. These cards are 101-125 in the set and are not serial numbered any different than the regular base, however, they are listed as being short printed.
The next set of cards are the Rookie Royalty. These are cards 126-140. As the title suggests, these feature the years rookie class. Based on the checklist, these are mostly considered the "Level 3" rookies. The only difference separating them from the base is the blueish shade to the foil crown die-cut. These also come in the autograph version as...
Rookie Royalty Signatures. The signatures are on-card (as least most of what I have seen) including Mr. Matt Read here. These are cards 141-165 in the set and feature all the "Level 2" prospects in this years' rookie class.
I also pulled a base parallel. I wasn't aware that there was a parallel set considering all the other "chase" cards that were out there. But, I guess it just wouldn't be a Panini set unless there was at least one type of parallel. This years set features a RED version in addition to the main base cards. These are not serial numbered as one would think.
The first insert that I pulled was this Lords Of The NHL card of Henrik Sedin. I'm not really a big fan of this design as the player kind of gets lost in the background design of the card. If there was a design that was "too busy" for a card release, it had to be put into Crown Royale.
The next card was another autograph. Here we have a Voices Of The Game auto of Dennis Beyak. For those that aren't familiar with Mr. Beyak, he is the announcer for the Winnipeg Jets. Dennis had been doing the radio side broadcast for Toronto since 1998 and was choice numero uno for the broadcast job in their inaugural return season to the NHL. This is a very nice set included in Crown Royale, as it was last year too, and, by Ebay standards, is one of the more sought after insert sets of any of the years releases. Just something about seeing the face behind the voice that we hear each an every night as we watch our beloved teams duke it out on the ice that draws out the popularity of this set. There is also a more rare version of each of these that feature the announcers "catch phrase". I'm still trying to complete last years set.
My first memorabilia hit was this fine specimen of a card. Here we have a Coat Of Arms Patch card of Alexander Burmistrov of, yes you guessed it, the Winnipeg Jets. As you can tell, there are 4 colors present, possibly 5 depending on how you count the larger dark blue stitch down the center. If you click on the card, you can see in the bottom left hand side of the relic window it says PATCH. I'm 99.9998% sure this is from the center embroidered patch from his Atlanta Thrashers jersey. It would appear as though it came from somewhere on the left side of the patch along the shooting wing of the Thrasher. That's the only spot where there is red near the blue border. Regardless of where it came from, this is a very nice piece.
And the last hit, but by far not the least...
We have this fine piece of work known as the Crown Royale Mythology Memorabilia card of Le Magnifique himself, Mario Lemieux. As are the Legendary Heroes cards, these also feature the player in black and white. Plus, the design here isn't as busy and detracting from the card itself. The only thing that would have made this hit better was if it looked like that Burmistrov card up there with multiple colors. But a GU pull of the greatest player ever, who just so happens to represent my favorite team, and just so happens to be a founding member of my PC makes this box more than worth it to me.

New Ebay PC Pickup...Is NEAT!
I'm still 80% committed to keeping this Tangradi collection going...especially if I end up winning some auctions that I am currently bidding on. I'm obviously not the only ET collector because my luck has been less than stellar. So for lack of anything else relevant or important to say, I will leave you with this little guy I just received in a nice, half-cut, brown padded envelope.

Comments
Just a quick observation totally unrelated to anything...
I was just noticing on other collector blogs how despite the content, photos, etc. on a blog post, most people get between 3-5 comments each time they send something. If you are me, it's usually less. But overall, the average is probably somewhere in that range.
But you offer up a contest???....And the dam breaks.
Instantly your comment count increases 15-20. Make it a FREE contest and that number immediately goes to near 50 or more.
The moral of this story...CARD COLLECTORS LIKE FREE STUFF!!

Panini Sticker Albums...Need some help
I remember as a kid picking up the Panini sticker albums every year for hockey and baseball. I never got into the football ones but was well aware of thier existence as my friends all tried filling those. Of all the years and all the books, I don't remember completing a single one of them 100%.
Fast forward about 20 years and now my 8 year old is hooked as well. He had the last three years of hockey albums and the last two years of football. The nice thing is that we usually get the books as a promotional giveaway from our LCS but the packs of stickers are generally scarce. Sure we can go to Target or Walmart and find countless boxes of Cars, Spongebob, Justin Bieber and Bella Sera pony sticker albums. We even occasionally find the football ones crammed into places on the trading card wall that they normally wouldn't be found. But hockey...almost never.
Knowing this, I picked up a box of the stickers online for a pretty good price. Panini sells them direct for a buck a pack, which is no savings, but at least gives a source. I found them somewhere...I don't remember where though, for about $35. Not a bad deal considering there are 50 packs in a box and 7 stickers per pack. That should at least give the kid a fairly good start at filling the book with the chance at 350 stickers out of the 385 it takes to complete the book.
Well, in typical overly optimistic fashion, I once again underestimated the shear amount of duplicates that would be in one full box of these. After all was said and done, he still needs 149 stickers. Considering he would have been 35 short anyway if there were no duplicates, you can imagine how many doubles there were. I lost track after 100. I am guessing when all was said and done, there were about 120-130 doubles (triples, quadruples, quintuples, etc.), not counting the extra team logo you get on every multi-logo sticker. Plus, we even took some of the foil "shiny" ones and put them over top the ones that weren't as an "upgrade".
Now I realize you can purchase directly from Panini the missing stickers you need in batches of 40 (which I fully intend to do when all is said and done) but as of today, March 25th, the site does not have the 2011-12 album available (only last year). So I am going to throw this out there to those of you in the blog reading/writing and collecting universe as a request to anyone that is collecting this book. If you have doubles or triples or quadruples, etc. that you would like to help out with, or know someone that might, my son would be more than happy to repay the favor with some of his doubles. I will have his list posted on my Set Needs page and it is also below here. Thanks in advance.

Pens vs. Predators: 3 Stars
The Pens played host to the surging Nashville Predators tonight at CES. The Pens once again put up 5 goals in a scoring clinic, winning 5-1. Some sports writers pitted this matchup as a Stanley Cup Final preview. I am not one of those pundits however as I don't think Nashville is coming out of the second round. Don't get me wrong, they are a talented team. Now that they have Radulov back, they have the potential to make life miserable for a lot of other teams. I just don't think their defense or goal tending are strong enough to get them all the way through to the end. Purely opinion and speculation. Feel free to disagree.
So tonight, James Neal continued his point scoring workshop by posting another 4 assists. Malkin also scored twice giving him 45 on the year. Cook scored again too giving him 17. 17 goals for Matt Cooke!!! Unbelievable! Here are tonight's 3 Stars...
